Research on the development of scientific and information
e-platform for open research information
on academic events in Ukraine based on the best European practices
Unlike officially published journal articles, assigning persistent identifiers (PID) to academic events is not a common practice. Academic events (conferences, seminars, congresses, symposia, trainings, workshops, webinars, distance learning courses, etc.) are an indispensable element of scientific communication among researchers. Another problem is that information about scientific events is stored on different information resources, which also negatively affects the ability to exchange information about scientific events and makes it difficult for researchers to find the necessary events. It is also quite common for websites (or website pages) containing information about a scientific event to cease to function after it has been held. In addition, the most common forms of sharing information about conferences are pdf and doc, which are not machine-readable, and the information about the conference is not presented in a standardized form.
Therefore, it is advisable to develop a platform that would contain unique identifiers of academic events, integrate all academic events and ensure the presentation of information in a standardized form.
The development of an open-access scientific information platform on academic events in Ukraine will serve the possible integration of information on academic events into the national scientific information system URIS, the international platform ConfIDent, which aims to ensure the use of PID for academic events and standardization of metadata, which ensures interoperability and openness to researchers from other countries, and will also provide the following benefits:
- obtaining information in a structured form;
- absence of duplication and availability of the original source of information;
- automation of data exchange using unique identifiers (e.g., generation of reports, bibliographies, summaries, and other documents that use information about conferences);
- simplify the processes of unification and collection of information on one platform, which will help automate the registration of events for providers and provide access to information on academic events in Ukraine for the general public;
- to ensure verification of each registered provider of scientific events and conferences in Ukraine, which will help protect scientists from participating in dishonest “predatory” events.
According to the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 109 “On the topics of scientific research and scientific and technical (experimental) developments of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for 2022-2026” dated February 4, 2022, the applied research project corresponds to the following topics: “1. Scientific research on the formation and implementation of state policy in the field of education, science, innovation and technology transfer. Forecasting of scientific, technological and innovative development”.
