Study of European practices of functional classification of research infrastructures and development of a national classifier of research infrastructures for the Ukrainian Research Information System “URIS”

The systematization of Ukrainian research infrastructures (RI) is defined as one of the tasks of the target program. Currently, there is no approach to the classification of RI in Ukraine, despite its integration into the global research space and membership in the European Research Infrastructure Consortia (ERIC). The need to study European practices of RI classification and develop a national one stems from the presence of gaps in the legislation, conceptual inaccuracies, and multiple changes that create the need to streamline the legal norms of research infrastructures.

The aim of the project is to develop an operational taxonomy of RI, which will be based on existing, most acceptable classifications used in various institutional contexts of the European Union (e.g., the European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), Horizon Europe, and MERIL2) and other international organizations (e.g., the OECD Global Science Forum). Using the EU experience, develop a taxonomy and implement it as a separate module in the Ukrainian Research Information System (URIS):

  • Study of European practices of functional classification of DI, identification of strengths and weaknesses in relation to Ukrainian realities
  • Systematization of Ukrainian research infrastructures and development of a model of the DI classifier.
  • Development of a national RI classifier based on European practices of functional classification of research infrastructures and creation of a RI module.
  • Implementation of the developed RI module into URIS and improvement of advanced search.

The research is carried out within the theme “Scientific research on the formation and implementation of state policy in the field of education, science, innovation and technology transfer. Forecasting of scientific, technological and innovative development” in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 109 dated February 03, 2022.
