SCIENTIFIC ACQUISITION OF THE DOCUMENTARY COLLECTION
One of the main tasks of the SSTL of Ukraine is to collect and preserve the main repertoire of national literature on science and technology, to form a high-quality and scientifically substantiated documentary collection.
A guarantee of the completeness of the library’s collection of national documents and scientific and technical literature is the right to receive a free copy of all scientific and technical publications published in Ukraine.
The SSTL collection is replenished, among other things, with regulatory and technical documents in the following main areas: energy, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, instrumentation, chemical industry and chemical technology, biotechnology, transport, communications, construction, computer science, etc. (Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 608 “On the Procedure for Delivery of Mandatory Copies of Documents” of 10.05.02).
Every year, the library receives almost 60 thousand copies of documents.

Patent collection
The SSTL Patent Collection is a center of patent information, the largest collection of patent documentation in Ukraine among all industrialized countries of the world and is intended to meet the information needs of various categories of users in conducting all types of patent research, depository storage of patent documentation and its wide public use.
The Patent Collection (PC) of the Library includes more than 16 million documents from 60 countries, 5 international organizations (WIPO, EPO, EAPO, OARI, ARIPO) and leading information companies, represented on various types of media. The PC represents a set of systematized and searchable information sources related to industrial property rights: inventions, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, integrated circuit topologies, as well as registered computer programs, databases and includes patent documentation, patent-associated, patent law, regulatory and methodological and reference literature.
The composition and completeness of the collection varies by country.
More than 80% of patent documents are descriptions of inventions for titles of protection.
In addition, the PC includes:
- Official bulletins and abstract publications of patent offices and leading information firms;
- Materials from the centralized reference and search engine;
- Patent law, methodological and reference literature on intellectual property issues.
The subject matter of the collection is universal across the entire range of headings of the International Patent Classification (IPC).
Collection of industrial documents
The collection consists of 34567 thousand copies of reference catalogs, industry and nomenclature catalogs, and passports.
The industrial documents collection provides an opportunity to obtain information not only about new equipment, but also about equipment from the 70s and 90s that is still in use at enterprises. The collection contains industry catalogs of Informelektro, Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering(“Metal Cutting Machines”, “Forging and Pressing Equipment”, “Woodworking Equipment”), Research Institute of Information and Economics (“Instruments and Automation Equipment”), RIIstroydormash (“Construction, Road and Municipal Machines”), CRIITERlegpischemash.
The industrial documents fund offers:

- nomenclature catalogs
- sectoral catalogs
- alphabetical and subject catalogs

Depository fund
The depository collection of the library is stored in accordance with the subject matter and types of documents, which is regulated by the “Unified Profile of Acquisition of Seldom Used Documents of Depository Libraries of Ukraine”. The collection includes about 18 thousand copies of patent, regulatory, technical and industrial documentation, books, periodicals, dissertations, reports on research and development, and deposited manuscripts.
Among the domestic and foreign dictionary and reference publications of the past and present, there are many valuable editions, in particular, “Industry and Technology: Encyclopedia of Industrial Knowledge, 1904; Larousse du XX siecle. En 6 volumes. Publie’sous la direction de Paul Auge. Paris, 1928-1933; Mc Graw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology: An international Reference work in twenty volumes including an index, 1960-1987, “Mechanical Engineering. Encyclopedia in 40 volumes”, 2001 and others.
Scientific and technical literature collection
The collection contains over 1.1 million copies and covers almost all fields of science, technology, economics (physical and mathematical sciences, chemistry and chemical technology, energy, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, computer science, mining, light industry, food, woodworking, economics, politics, etc.
The collection includes:
- mono-editions, poly-editions;
- scientific collections;
- abstracts, materials of scientific conferences;
- non-periodical serial continuing publications;
- publications of STI bodies;
- domestic and foreign books, periodicals;
- reference and information publications.
There are more than 3500 titles of periodical scientific and technical publications on paper and on microcarriers, according to their intended purpose: official, scientific, popular science, scientific and production, educational, social and political, reference and dictionary, advertising.
Documents from the collection of the Storage Department are issued through the Department of Scientific and Technical Literature and Periodicals.

The SSTL exchange fund is used for the exchange, redistribution, free transfer and sale of documents.
The exchange fund functions on the basis of the “Instruction on the organization and procedure for the exchange, redistribution and distribution of documents among libraries of Ukraine through the exchange fund of the SSTL of Ukraine”.

Collection of unpublished documents
The collection is unique in that its materials are not published in the general press, in Ukraine they are kept only in the SSTL, and it has more than 1 million copies.
The collection includes:
- deposited results of intellectual activity from November 2016 to the present.
- deposited scientific works (articles, reviews, monographs, reference books, collections of scientific works, materials of conferences, congresses, meetings and symposia) from 1972 to 2016 inclusive;
- dissertation abstracts from 1992 to the present (those defended in Ukraine);
- PhD and doctoral dissertations for 1979 – 1992 – duplicate of the Moscow All-Union Scientific and Technical Information Center.
- PhD and doctoral dissertations for 1992 – 1997 – those defended in Ukraine (selectively);
- reports on research and development for 1985 – 1992 – duplicate of the Moscow All-Union Scientific and Technical Information Center;
- research and development reports for 1992-1997, those registered in Ukraine (selectively).

Since 1972, the SSTL of Ukraine has been the country’s main depository center for the registration of manuscript scientific papers in all branches of science and technology on scientific research and results achieved in highly specialized scientific fields.

Депозитарний фонд
Зберігання депозитарного фондубібліотеки здійснюється у відповідності з тематикою та видами документів, що регламентується “Єдиним профілем комплектування маловживаних документів бібліотек депозитаріїв України”. Фонд налічує біля 18 тис. прим. патентної, нормативно-технічної та промислової документації, книг, періодичних видань, дисертацій, звітів про ДКР та НДР, депонованих рукописів.
Серед вітчизняних та зарубіжних словниково-довідкових видань минулого та сьогодення є багато цінних видань, зокрема, “Промышленность и техника: Энциклопедия промышленных знаний”, 1904 р. видання; Larousse du XX siecle. Книгообмін з бібліотеками України
Обмінний фонд ДНТБ України використовується для обміну, перерозподілу, безкоштовної передачі та реалізації документів.
Функціонування обмінного фонду здійснюється на підставі “Інструкції про організацію та порядок обміну, перерозподілу і розповсюдження документів серед бібліотек України через обмінний фонд ДНТБ України”.

Основні завдання:
- Підготовка інформаційних бібліографічних списків з метою інформування бібліотек про документи, що є в обмінному фонді;
- Здійснення обміну документами з іншими бібліотеками;
- Перерозподіл документів між бібліотеками.

Фонд неопублікованих документів
Фонд є унікальним тим, що його матеріали не публікуються в широкій пресі, в Україні зберігаються тільки в ДНТБ України, налічує понад 1 млн. примірників.
Фонд містить:
- депоновані результати інтелектуальної діяльності з листопада 2016 року по теперішній час. (з активним посиланням на каталог «Депоновані результати інтелектуальної діяльності» «Ірбіс»)
- депоновані наукові роботи (статті, огляди, монографії, довідники, збірники наукових робіт, матеріали конференцій, з’їздів, нарад і симпозіумів) з 1972р. по 2016р. включно; (з активним посиланням на каталог «Депоновані наукові роботи» «Ірбіс»).
- автореферати дисертацій з 1992р. – по теперішній час (ті що захищалися в Україні);
- кандидатські та докторські дисертації за 1979 – 1992 рр. – дублет Московського ВНТІЦентру. Покажчики(з активним посиланням на покажчики pdf);
- кандидатські та докторські дисертації за 1992 – 1997 рр. ті, що захищалися в Україні (вибірково);
- звіти про науково-дослідні та дослідно-конструкторські розробки за 1985 – 1992рр. – дублет Московського ВНТІЦентру;

Відділ науково-технічної літератури та періодики.
Забезпечує:
- формування, організацію і збереження фонду науково-технічної літератури, періодики та депозитарного фонду маловживаної науково-технічної літератури і документів з питань науки і техніки;
- обслуговування читачів у читальному залі, залі нових надходжень та абонентів підприємств і організацій через міжбібліотечний абонемент;
- проведення щотижневих виставок нових надходжень (книг, авторефератів дисертацій, періодичних вітчизняних та зарубіжних видань), тематичних виставок з актуальних питань науки і техніки та виставок-персоналій;
- створення віртуальних виставок:
- щотижневих виставок нових надходжень книжкових видань,
- довідково-енциклопедичних та словникових видань,
